The Two Moors Way passes through the village and there are a number of excellent short walks including a 9 mile circular route down the river to Tarr Steps returning high over Withypool Hill with many superb views en-route. As a large attractive village, there are plenty of things to do near Williton, including several annual events in the village! Local events include the Village Fete in July, the steam and diesel railway Galas, duck racing and the annual cricket festival.
Based in a recognised area of outstanding beauty, there are plenty of walks and bike rides that offer some stunning views over St. Audries Beach and beyond. The beach is also a hot spot for rockpooling and fossil hunting, and is known for its picturesque waterfall. The town has been a busy sea port for more than years. Steam trains, on the restored West Somerset Railway can be boarded from Watchet station.
An attractive pleasure marina now fills the ancient harbour. As an ancient town and one of the largest in the area, there are plenty of things to do near Tiverton! Visit the Grand Western Canal to see the famous horse-drawn barges, or join one of the many countryside routes that are ideal for walkers and cyclists. Based on the Washford River and with plenty of superb trails to explore, including The Coleridge Way, Roadwater is an excellent base for walkers and cyclists to explore the region from.
One nearby option is Dunster Castle — perfect for all the family! There are plenty of things to do near South Molton, including taking a trip and discover Quince Honey Farm , a working honey farm and a tourist attraction, it offers a great day out for all ages.
Join a guided tour of the unique Bee World attraction and see millions of bees all housed behind protective glass , sample delicious honeys, try your hand at rolling a beeswax candle and get suited up to take part in Be a Beekeeper where you will be guided through the inner workings of a live beehive.
Experience the power of steam travelling through the rolling countryside, with views out to wild moorland and the rugged coastline. Explore the River Barle which passes through the valley, rising only a few miles to the west at Pinkery Pond. Pinkery Pond was also built by by John Knight, but it is not certain for what reason.
Explore a local sawmill that the National Park restored and is now used to cut sessile oak for signs and gates. There is a good-sized car park where several good walks start from. Another nearby option is Wild About Exmoor. Walkers will be pleased to discover plenty of stunning routes that celebrate the local scenery and wildlife.
There are plenty of things to do near Oare, including exploring the nearby steep sided valley scenery, rich with wildlife and rushing moorland streams — an ideal spot to explore for walkers.
The St. Visitors looking for things to do near Nether Stowey will be happy to hear that the village is the perfect base to explore the stunning Quantack Hills from. This area offers beautiful walks across the hills to neighbouring villages, or circular routes that take you back to Nether Stowey.
Nether Stowey Castle is also a popular attraction in the area, featuring a Normal motte and bailey castle mount with wonderful views across Exmoor. Another nearby option is Dunster Castle, ideal for family days outs.
Make sure to hop on the West Somerset Railway to enjoy 20 miles of heritage railway through stunning Somerset countryside and coast. The quiet lanes and extensive Rights of Way offer many opportunities to explore the local area and the Coleridge Way runs passes through the village. There are also plenty of excellent walking and cycling routes to explore nearby, all of which eventually lead to a traditional Exmoor pub!

The greater horseshoe bat is the largest of the European Horseshoe Bats and is thus easily distinguished from other species. It is roughly the size of a small pear with reddish-brown on its back and cream-coloured underneath.
These bats emerge from hibernation around May to form maternity colonies where they have their pups baby bats. Exmoor is the national stronghold of the heath fritillary butterfly, one of the rarest of the butterflies breeding in Britain. The Exmoor pony is a short and stocky breed exclusive to Exmoor in west Somerset and north Devon. It is largely brown or bay in colour and is noted for its hardiness and endurance.
