If it 'hits', you'll have to pay for a report. The report may or may not contain useful information. My experience is that it shows the last registration date and state in which it was registered, but not much else.

The majority of cars there just will be no info on, if it exists anywhere it's in a file forgotten somewhere in a basement or warehouse.
Heck, in NY if a car is inactive for enough years they delete the record out of the computer, too.
